What is God's Will for My Life?
1 John 2:17 “And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for
ever.”
Here we have the promise by God through His servant, the beloved Apostle John, that whoever DOES the will of the Father will abide forever. But
what is God’s will? Do you ever wonder what God’s will is for your life? Here are some verses dealing with God’s will for your life.
For starters, we have 1 John 3:23 –
“And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us
commandment.” And John 6:28, 29
– “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath
sent.”
So the first thing that God wants for us is to believe on the Name of Jesus
and be saved. He does not want you to perish in Hell apart from Him for all eternity.
Next we see that there are many other general things that God both wills and commands us concerning our lifestyle once saved. Here are a few example verses and summaries that you can look up.
-
1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 – Rejoice, Pray without ceasing, In everything give thanks
-
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 – Your Sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication
-
Romans 12:2 – Be not conformed to this world
-
1 Peter 2:15-25 – Do well so as to silence the ignorance of foolish men
Now these and many more are examples are God’s will for our lifestyles and how we conduct ourselves, but what is the will of the Lord for our time left on earth once we are saved?
The answer goes back to the 1 Jn 5:23 verse, God’s will is not only for you to be saved, but every person.
Matthew 18:14 – “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should
perish.” In this verse, the Little Ones Jesus is referring to is not children, He is referring to the Lost Sheep…every man woman and child that is dying in their sins.
So what does that have to do with you? Once you are saved, it is now your life’s mission to glorify God by preaching the Law and Gospel. Notice
Jude 22,23, “And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the
flesh.”
This is after Jude 3
tells us, “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the
saints.”
The Gospel has been put into our hands. Paul says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent?” Romans 10:13-15
Face it, we are the chosen vessels to deliver the light of the gospel.
Maybe you say that you have not been ‘sent,’ and that’s not your calling. You would be wrong on both counts.
Read Matthew 28:19-20. If you
have been redeemed, you have been sent. It is your calling. If God’s will was fully accomplished for your life when you were saved, that would be the end of your life.
The good thing is that there only two times you have to
preach… In Season and
Out of Season. If you can find another time not
included in these, you are excused.
2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
Consider also Ephesians 2:10,
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk
in them."
We are saved FOR good works...
